The Farmington Area Commission on Aging is seeking one new member from Farmington Hills to fill an open position.

The position is open to an adult of any age who is interested in issues of importance to older residents in the Farmington/Farmington Hills area.

The Commission on Aging is a city council-appointed commission whose purpose is to make the community "a great place to live as we grow older." The main goals of the commission are to:

  • Play an advisory role for area older adults.

  • Act as a resource for referrals.

  • Provide education and advocacy.

  • Create community awareness about available services and programs.

  • Encourage recognition for older adults' past and present contribution.

  • Coordinate with other Commissions such as Children, Youth, & Families, and Parks & Recreation.

Farmington Hills/Farmington is recognized as a "Community for a Lifetime" by the Michigan Office of the Services to the Aging, designating that this is an aging-friendly area.

The Commission on Aging recently undertook a community survey to determine what services and programs are of interest to those 50 and better.

The Commission on Aging meets at 5:30 P. M. on the fourth Tuesday of every month at the Costick Center, 28600 11 Mile in Farmington Hills (April, May, June, September, October, and November) or at Farmington City Hall, 23600 Liberty Street in Farmington (January, February, and March).
