Welcome!

We're the Farmington Friends of the Library—1,500 plus people like you who love to read and learn and then pass that love along to others.

From the welcoming face of the book-juggling mime balanced on the tightrope just inside our 12 Mile Road location to the hearthside reading space by the fireplace in our Farmington branch, you'll see evidence of the Friends' efforts in action throughout the Library.

Our Mission

Friends actively work to strengthen the Farmington Community Library—by advocating and seeking funding to help the Library meet its goals of promoting literacy, providing an educational environment, fostering life-long learning and recreation for adults, and promoting access to information through the use of technology.

Friends News

The Farmington Friends of the Library approved 109,464 in committments to Library services in 2013:

  • Library staff used those funds to purchase DVDs, books, reference materials such as Online Consumer Reports, movie licensing for more events, and technology needed to expand e-book offerings in the future.

  • The Friends again focused on funding library initiatives for students such as the popular summer reading program (with 900 participants!) and Battle of the Books. In addition, we supported reading incentive programs in Farmington schools, providing funds for ‘One School, One Book’ and ‘Book Parade’.

  • The Friends also make author visits possible, such as the ‘On Becoming a Writer’ program with bestselling author Thrity Umrigar (The highly successful program brought in over 200 people from the community in April 2013).
