General Information—An Overview of Our Library
The Farmington Community Library is a District Library serving the two communities of Farmington and Farmington Hills in southeastern Michigan, with a combined population of 90,112 (official 2010 Census figure).
The Library is governed by an eight member Board of Trustees, with four members appointed from each city. Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at the Main Library in the Board Room on the mezzanine, and are open to the public.
The Library is committed to facilitating independent learning and encouraging the love of reading from
early childhood throughout ones lifetime. Information formats and service delivery will evolve as
demographics change.
The Library's Collection ecompasses 253,744 items at our two Branches. We offer more than 194,000 Books for adults, teens, and children, with an additional 10,000+ eBooks. Nearly 20,000 Films are available in DVD and Video formats, plus over 18,000 titles in Audio formats (Music and Books on CD or MP3 Discs and Cassette), as well as downloadable AudioBooks, MP3s, and PlayAways. We subscribe to 370 magazines and newspapers.
The Farmington Community Library consists of two Branches:
- The Main Library is located at 32737 West 12 Mile Road. This is between Farmington and Orchard Lake Roads on the south side of 12 Mile, next to the Farmington Hills Post office.
It was built in 1972. In January, 2003, as part of an addition and renovation project it was expanded to 72,000 square feet. This includes a computer lab and commons area with over 75 public computers. Internet access for laptops is available at study tables. Wireless access was added early in 2006. Refreshments are available at the Chapters Café. The Heritage Room offers a local history and genealogy collection, and much more! The Children's Department occupies the entire lower level of the original building and features a Smart Start Center designed for fully interactive reading readiness activities.

- The 18,000 square foot Farmington Branch is located at 23500 Liberty Street, one block west of Farmington Road and one block south of Grand River. It is at the corner of Liberty and State Streets, next door to the Farmington City Hall. This Branch was built in 1975 in downtown Farmington, was renovated in 1999 and features a Children's Room with life size trees and a tree house.
